Target Tracking and Ranging Based on Single Photon Detection

In order to achieve non-cooperative target tracking and ranging in conditions of a weak echo signal, this paper presents real-time acquisition, pointing, (APT), (APTR) lidar system based on single photon detection. With system, an active APT mechanism detector is proposed. The strategy the simulation are presented. Experiments laboratory show that has good performance pointing static target, track dynamic (angular velocity around 3 mrad/s) under condition extremely signals (a dozen photons). Meanwhile, through further theoretical analysis, it can be proven stronger detection ability long distance. It with lateral hundreds meters per second at about one hundred kilometers This means fast long-distance ranging, only by using single-point detector.
